What’s Included in an Initial Assessment?
🔹 Full History Taking
We begin by discussing your horse’s background, current workload, behavioural changes, veterinary history, and any known injuries or concerns. If your vet has referred your horse for physiotherapy, we’ll also review any clinical notes or imaging.

🔹 Static & Dynamic Assessment
Your horse will be assessed both at rest and in motion. We observe posture, conformation, weight-bearing, and movement in walk and trot (in-hand or on the lunge), focusing on gait quality, asymmetries, and signs of discomfort or compensation.

🔹 Palpation & Range of Motion Testing
We conduct a hands-on evaluation of your horse’s muscles, joints, and soft tissue, checking for pain, tension, heat, swelling, and restrictions. Passive limb movements may be used to assess flexibility and joint mobility.

🔹 Treatment During the Session
Where appropriate, your horse will receive their first physiotherapy treatment during the assessment. This may include manual therapy, stretching, and/or electrotherapy (at an extra cost) such as:

Class IV laser

Ultrasound

TECAR therapy

Magnetotherapy

Cryotherapy

🔹 Tailored Rehabilitation or Maintenance Plan
Based on our findings, if you choose, we will design an individualised treatment plan that may include follow-up sessions, home exercises, pole work, in-hand rehab, or adjustments to workload and management.

Aftercare & Follow-Up

You'll receive a written summary of findings and recommendations, and we’re always happy to liaise with your vet, farrier, or trainer if needed to ensure a truly collaborative approach.

How to Prepare for Your Appointment

  • Have your horse clean and dry for assessment

  • A safe area for walk and trot-up (ideally hard, level ground)

  • A flat area for any in-hand work or treatments

  • Any relevant veterinary reports or recent imaging (if available)

We believe in more than treating symptoms — we work to understand the whole picture and help your horse achieve long-term comfort and function.
